Donald Smith
Standing at 2 meters tall these speaker is ideal for enhancing your viewing/listening experience at home, they retail for a very reasonable price(See lowest price). They are made by the English loud speaker company Q Acoustics who have made a solid reputation for themselves after bursting onto the scenes in 2006. The 3000 range has followed the popular 2000 range and now they’re even more impressive. The exterior of the speakers are very cool and you can be guaranteed they will just fit into any interior design, they have a gloss finish which makes them ooze sophistication so you will love how they look in your home before you even listen to how impressive they sound. They enhance the sound of any song/movie/show and intensify the atmosphere. They come with a QED Silver Anniversary XT Speaker Cable.

The Pros:

  • Light enough to easily maneuver around your house
  • Really nice gloss finish on them, making them a treat to look at and produce many compliments from guests
  • Great sounding for music that doesn't that heavy heavy beat
  • Easily set up and have nice spike feet which are easily adjustable for sturdiness
  • Has internal bracing to help reduce resonances within the cabinet

The cons:

    • Not as robust as more expensive competitors
    • Lacks that toughness to the cabinets that you can read about in other reviews
    • At high volumes resonances can be heard

An in depth look at the Q acoustics 3050:

Build

The coupling posts have been moved from under the cabinet to the more conventional back spot and the twin 165mm primary drivers are currently made with a stiffer paper/aramid material . The 25mm tweeters, which sit between the two mid/bass drivers, are a recent addition to the design which consolidate the ring sort and vault tweeter in one keeping in mind the end goal to give bring down contortion and more extensive sound scattering. They are disengaged from the ccabinets in a butyl elastic lodging to avoid resonances and other garbage from creating obstruction. The crossover is tremendously enhanced with better quality parts and the cabinet, developed from MDF, has been intended for additional low resonances with better inside propping(internal braces) and also twofold layered front and top boards. This is maybe fairly more traditional when contrasted with the higher-end (however still strikingly reasonable) Q Acoustics ‘Concept’ range, which sport a double shell cabinet sandwiching a special Gelcore adhesive substance which turns energy waves into heat. Wow.

The rear-ported two-way reflex 3050s have a rather appealing 92dB sensitivity, so this means that they are perfect for your more lower powered amplifiers. The nominal impedance is 6 ohms with frequency response measured as 44 Hz to 22 KHz, and Q Acoustics recommend the amplification power range to be 25 – 100 watts per channel. These speakers are quite large, measuring 1 meter tall and 298 deep x 200 wide (mm). They sit on little spikes that kick out at the rear to ensure stability. The cabinets aren't as robust as I have experienced in the past and don't have that solid heavy feeling to them. Still, weighing only 17.8 kg make them a delight to move around your home, for instance I moved them into my bedroom for a Friday night when I wanted to watch a movie with my girlfriend in bed. As mentioned before and I'll mention again the glossy finish make them a delight to look at, while watching the movie on Friday I think I looked at the 3050's more than the actual movie ha.

Setup and listening

So when these two beauties arrived I was excited to rip the packaging off of them and get them set up immediately. The manual recommends a distance of 20cm from the wall and that seems perfect. Appearance wise these speakers slot in perfectly with such a wide range of interior designs. For instance Both my gloss black speakers fitted each side of my red couch. Normally these colors do not mix however due to the ultra slick design of these beauties they just looked awesome. I can assure you that the visitors to your home will be giving you lots of complements on the sophistication of the speakers.

When i finished fiddling around with settings and cords it was time to sit back and enjoy what these floor standing speakers had to offer. I tried it with a wide range of my favorite music, starting with a bit of rock 'n roll, who better than the king himself Elvis to debut the speakers and boy did he sound spectacular. Feeling like I was at a concert it got my adrenaline pumping, truly enjoyed listening to Elvis today. Moving on to classical I put on my favorite Italian singer Andrea Bocelli with his classic "time to say goodbye", I can assure you I sat back, closed my eyes and let the music flow beautifully in the air. I am sure you're thinking this is cheesy as f*** but I assure you this is all true. To avoid you thinking i'm a complete nutter I will quickly tell you I listened to Eminem as I wanted to hear how rap music sounded. Not as impressed with the first two artists because at certain points when the volume was really high I could hear certain vibrations from the interior of the build. Given the price of these speakers it was a bit much to ask that they be perfect but still a tiny fault to be mentioned.  I quickly started my one favorite movies Lord of the Rings "the fellowship of the ring". As expected It does enhance the viewing experience and makes it all around just more enjoyable. I especially enjoy the parts when epic characters with charismatic voices give their speeches, if you are familiar with the movies you'll appreciate Gandalf's, Aragron's and Eldron's parts.

They really intensify the parts that are meant to be a little more scary, I guess they help to hold your attention better. I would be too scared to try and watch a horror by myself at home, I would actually opt to disconnect them in this particular situation. But that is a testament to their ability and/or my fear. Not quite sure which one more ha.

Conclusion

So overall I think I got slightly more than what I paid for, they don't match up well with the floor standing sets that are $1000+ but when comparing them to under that I think we have a winner.
